If you’re not sure how to install the font, have a look at HELP! How to install OrthodoxHerbertarian.ttf (Windows and Mac).
Cheers for downloading this font, please post a comment to tell me what you think.
The font does not currently include any numbers or many symbols (as they did not appear on any book covers) but if there is enough demand I may put out an updated version at a later date.
Please do not re-host this font on your own site, but please do spread the word and link back here – that would be much appreciated! Thanks.

This is the best thing ever to happen to fonts!

Awsome!!!
By the way, would you happen to know the name of the more modern font used on some of the more recent dune books?
like this…

Beautiful font. . is there also a font available with blood splattering on it? Even though the Iduali would be horrified by the waste of moisture resulting from such a sloppy killing it still makes for a cool effect.

Chirox: Update: It’s one called Benguiat – great font… shame about the books
arnoldo: Blood spatters on a case-by-case basis and by special request only…
Cheers everyone!

Thanks for the great font! I also quite like the font used in the poster: http://www.movieposter.com/poster/MPW-18507/Dune.html
If anyone knows this font already exists, please tell us the name…or go create it! Thanks.

Yeah… what IS the font used on the movie poster? I keep seeing it here and there on other signage and it’s driving me nuts trying to figure out what the exact font is (whatthefont didn’t work with so few letters).

It’s one called Albertus – but slightly modified. I’ve created a page of “Other fonts used for DUNE” with the details: http://www.kullwahad.com/?p=257 – have a gander.

Found your site via io9. Love the font. It fills my heart with glee.

I just packaged this font for Arch Linux, so now users can get it as part of the system.
Don’t worry, this doesn’t involve hosting the font anywhere else, it will be downloaded from your own server.
The package name is ttf-orthodox-herbertarian

Sounds cool, Roberto!
Thanks for the comments! The download counter isn’t displaying properly but the admin panel says the font has been downloaded 700 times – that’s +250 since io9

Nice one! If you haven’t seen it already, at least four numbers can be found on the 1978 Dune Calendar -

…and I suppose they might serve as a reference to how the other numbers might be styled as well.
